Winners of 2017 My Isle of Wight Awards revealed

02-02-2018 – Some of the Isle of Wight’s brightest and most innovative tourism businesses gathered at Tapnell Farm last Thursday to see who had won Red Funnel’s 2017 myIsleofWight awards.

The awards are the only visitor-voted-for accolade for businesses on the Isle of Wight which saw 30,000 public votes cast across 24 unique categories which capture the wonderful variety and diversity of the Island's tourism offer.

The awards evening was hosted by Tom Stroud at The Cow Co. at Tapnell Farm and had a distinctly Indian flavour, with the event theme celebrating the Island's Indian connections at Osborne and elsewhere.

Alix Robinson, myIsleofWight Editor said: "Sticking with the original ethos of the awards; of lots of like-minded businesses getting together to celebrate what's great about the Island, we chose this year's theme of Holi Masti. Celebrating our Island connections with India, Masti translates to playful/having fun/celebrating and Holi is the Hindu spring festival celebrated in the Indian subcontinent, also known as the 'festival of colours' or the 'festival of love'."

Each winner at the event received a beautiful hand crafted glass award made by Ed Evans at Glory Art Glass in Sandown, who has been making the myIsleofWight prizes since they started 2012.

Speaking about the awards evening, Kevin George, CEO at Red Funnel, said: "It's a fun and exciting evening that gives the winners and the companies nominated the recognition they richly deserve for being leading-lights in their respective sectors."

Speaking about scooping the prize for Most Glamorous B&B, Ben Cooke of the Little Gloster said: "We were blown away to win. It was a pleasure to be there with all the community and other great businesses and it is excellent for Red Funnel to support it. We were thrilled two win for the second year in a row. The Island is evolving and the huge variety of activities places to visit show how strong our tourist offer is."

myIsleofWight is the Island's independent guide, written by locals, offering authentic unbiased information on all the best things to do, places to stay and where to eat across the Isle of Wight. The awards follow this ethos, celebrating businesses that go above and beyond in offering their customers an outstanding holiday experience.

Now into its 7th year, the myIsleofWight Awards shine a light on the very best tourism businesses on the Island and give visitors an opportunity to vote for their favourites.
