Red Funnel has today opened applications for its 2024 Island Ambassador and Supported Teams Initiative, dedicated to supporting the aspirations and talents of individuals living on the Isle of Wight.

Island residents have until midday on Tuesday 12th December to submit their applications, to be part of the cross-Solent ferry operators Island Ambassador and Supported Teams Initiative.

The Island Ambassadors and Teams will be chosen to receive travel support for a period of 12 months. This sponsorship will support their training, participation in competitions and performances, as well as events off the Isle of Wight. Both individuals and groups of up to six residents can apply to become Ambassadors, groups and teams over six can apply for Supported Team status.

Fran Collins, CEO of Red Funnel, said: “We are committed to nurturing the remarkable talent within the Isle of Wight community, and with the Red Funnel Island Ambassador and Supported Teams Initiative, we aim to provide a platform for individuals to take their passions to the national stage."

In 2023, 13 talented individuals and teams from around the Island were selected to become an Island Ambassador, including the well-known indie band Coach Party, Junior Competitive Dancer, Jess Burfitt, British WAKO Kickboxing Champ Dominic Marsh, and Dog Sled Racing and Show Team, Wightflight Siberian Huskies. Ten Island teams were selected for support, including Ventnor Rugby Club, Naut Cycling Club, Wight Harmony Barbershop Group and the Starlight Academy dance troop.

Applications are open to individuals of all ages and talents starting today, and will conclude on 12 December at 12pm. Applicants must live on the Isle of Wight, have already pursued their passion to a high level on the Island and are now looking to take that next step across the water to compete or perform at county or national level.
