Red Funnel supports first Isle of Wight Comic Con
31-10-2017 Over 3,000 enthusiastic comic book, film and TV fans are expected to visit Cowes this weekend for the Isle of Wight's inaugural Comic Con. The event will be held at Northwood House in West Cowes on 4th and 5th November 2017.
The event has something for everyone and promises a weekend full of excitement for fans who will be joined by high-profile names from Hollywood, film and television.
Highlights include Brian O'Halloran of the cult classic film Clerks, Spartacus star Manu Bennett and John Altman (aka "Nasty Nick") from EastEnders. The event will also host a number of notable names from the comic book world, including Chris Thompson of Titan Comics, Colin MacNeil of Marvel and DC, and John Royle of Marvel and IDW.
Isle of Wight Comic Con Event Director Ben Belton said: "Comic Con events are a magical liberating experience. There is something so uplifting about seeing people of all ages and occupations showing up in costume and really letting their hair down and having some fun. To anyone who has never attended an event before, come out and give it a try - in costume, no costume, whatever you fancy. It's a great day out for the whole family and you're guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face."
"Cosplay" (the act of dressing up in character) is highly encouraged throughout the weekend, with numerous prizes best costumes up for grabs. Event attendees can also look forward to an exhibitors' area with show cars such as the Transformers Bumblebee Camaro and an appearance by the entire Vectis Remnant Squad of the Star Wars Costuming Group the UK Garrison.
Those travelling to the Island via Red Funnel's Hi-Speed Red Jet service can look forward to a fun, festive atmosphere on Saturday morning. There will be photo opportunities with characters and face painting at Red Funnel's Southampton Terminal 2, whilst event staff dressed as notable characters will meet and greet travellers as they arrive in West Cowes.
