Red Funnel announces JetConnect service
28-10-2003 Red Funnel has announced that it will trial a FREE water taxi service from Monday 3 November at commuter times between East and West Cowes. The new service will be branded “jetconnect’” and is aimed predominantly at commuters living to the East of the River Medina, which divides the two towns.
Red Funnel’s Hi-Speed traffic has been growing steadily year on year and has a proven reputation for reliability and punctuality. The addition of Red Jet 4 to the route in June 2003 has increased capacity significantly and the vessel’s ride and interior design has been well received by customers.
To assist commuters living in East Cowes and other towns such as Ryde to the East, the new weekday “jetconnect” service drops customers directly on the berth at West Cowes. By doing so, it will save commuters the inconvenience of using the Cowes Floating Bridge and the 10 minute walk to Red Funnel’s Hi-Speed terminal.
The launch of the service also reflects Red Funnel’s commitment to the regeneration of East Cowes, an area with considerable development potential. It is Red Funnel’s long-term aim to establish a Hi-Speed service between East Cowes and Southampton, although this will not be operational until a suitable berth is constructed.
Olive Glass, Marketing Director for Red Funnel comments:
“We are confident that the “jetconnect” service will prove popular. We are delighted to be able to make the commute to and from Southampton even easier for our East Cowes customers, and look forward to welcoming them on the new service from 3 November. We will keep customers informed as decisions are taken about the future of a direct East Cowes to Southampton service.”
This service will depart & arrive at the public pontoon (locally known as the gridiron) located at the end of the Trinity House building, East Cowes.
