Solent Transport partnership receives environmental recognition
20-11-2017 – An innovative logistics and distribution partnership between Red Funnel Ferries, Steve Porter Transport and Meachers Global Logistics garnered recognition at this year's Supply Chain Excellence Awards because of the positive impact it's having on the environment.
Judges at the prestigious industry awards, which reward business excellence in the areas of supply chain, distribution and logistics, felt compelled to recognise the green benefits of the group's Solent Alliance: a partnership that encourages smarter and more efficient cross-Solent logistics and distribution.
Extensive research highlighted the reduction in emissions, reduction of congestion and the benefits to the local community which the partnership brings. This has been independently verified by Transport Systems Catapult who undertake research for the likes of Transport for London and the Highways Agency.
The three-way partnership not only benefits the environment, it also helps improve the breadth of services available to freight customers shipping goods across the Solent via Southampton. It is also highly efficient and offers economies of scale for Island businesses.
Lee Hudson, Revenue Director at Red Funnel said: "This unique logistics and distribution partnership arrangement allows Red Funnel to focus on providing a first class ferry and holiday service, rather than provide its own road haulage operation. It is a truly unique way of working and we are delighted that it has received UK and now worldwide recognition."
The recognition at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards comes off the back of the alliance winning the Motor Transport Partnership award in July 2017.
