Red Funnel win silver Investors in People Award

14-12-2011 Red Funnel, the Isle of Wight specialist has been awarded silver status following an independent assessment by Investors in People in December 2011.

Investors in People is the UK's leading people management standard and a business improvement tool designed to help organisations develop performance through their people.  This silver status demonstrates Red Funnel’s on going commitment to training and development across the entire company.

Red Funnel employs around 450 people and the independent assessor selected and interviewed 50 employees on a variety of subjects to gauge opinion and identify evidence of how people feel about working practices at Red Funnel. The assessment review found particularly strong evidence that the Company’s core values are understood by all, and that people agree and believe in them. Most staff were able to describe how they demonstrate these values on a daily basis. There was also a strong recognition that staff have a clearer understanding of customer needs and wishes and a powerful teamworking ethic exists.  People at Red Funnel generally feel they are listened to, and that their opinions and ideas are important.

James Fulford, CEO Red Funnel commented “We don’t organise our practises specifically around achieving awards, although  we do  try to manage all of our operations in the best way possible, so we are really pleased that all our hard work has paid off.  The silver status is a worthwhile credit as only 2.2% of 21,974 recognised organisations in the UK  have been awarded Investors in People silver recognition*. We keep striving to be the best and to create the best working environment for our staff, so we are already planning ways to improve our people management further, with a view to achieving gold status in the future.” 

Located in Southampton Red Funnel has been an influential local employer for many years.  In 2011 Red Funnel celebrated its 150th anniversary and the ferry company has roots which stretch back to 1820.
