Red Funnel Praised for Eco Efforts at Awards

31-10-2014 Red Funnel has been praised for its green credentials and is in the running for an Eco Business Award at a ceremony on the Isle of Wight in November.

The Eco award, which is part of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence 2014, is sponsored by Southern Vectis and recognises businesses which are striving to minimise their environmental footprint.

Red Funnel is committed is to environmental protection and undertakes environmental performance audits and reviews across the business as part of its continuous improvement programme. The environmental management policy extends to all vessels and terminals as well as the company’s headquarters in Southampton which means all glass, plastic and waste paper is segregated and recycled. Outside work, Red Funnel’s staff have been helping to keep the Island’s shoreline ship-shape, by regularly rolling up their sleeves and running beach clean-up days.

Kevin George, CEO at Red Funnel, said: “We are proud to have been nominated for this award in recognition of our environmental performance. We were one of the first ferry operators in Europe to be awarded with the environmental standard ISO 14001 and we have been using low-sulphur fuels across the fleet for over 17 years. This means we are fully compliant with the new emission regulations which come into force next year”.

Red Funnel is also sponsoring the Tourism, Leisure & Hospitality category in the Isle of Wight Chamber’s 2014 Business Awards for Excellence. The award aims to recognise tourism businesses on the Island which are regularly exceeding the expectations of their customers. Those nominated include In2action, Nettlecombe Farm Holidays and Shanklin Theatre.

Jonathan Green, Marketing & Communications Director for Red Funnel commented: “Customer satisfaction is clearly important for all tourism business as it has a direct impact on repeat visits and referrals.  We therefore wish the leading lights who have been nominated in this category the best of luck.”
