Red Funnel offer special excursion to commemorate Titanic

02-04-2012 Tuesday 10th April 2012 will mark the centenary of the RMS Titanic’s departure from the Port of Southampton and Red Funnel, Isle of Wight Ferries, whose tugs assisted the vessel from it’s berth, are offering a memorable way to commemorate this historical event.

An exclusive memorial service will be held at 43/44 berth, the same dock that the Titanic set sail from at 12 noon on the 10th April 1912.  The service which features the Royal Marines Association Concert Band, the Southampton Choral Society and Calshot Tug Tender, which will re-enact the departure of RMS Titanic’s from its berth.  At the strike of noon, all the ships in port will sound their whistles and a flotilla of small craft, including Red Funnel’s Red Jet, will then following the Calshot Tug Tender out of the dock and to the harbour limits to lay a commemorative wreath.

A special Red Jet excursion to see the RMS Titanic Commemorative Event is available for £45 per person. Departing at 11.00am, the Red Jet will position itself opposite the Titanic berth so guests onboard can watch the event from the outer top deck.  At noon the Red Jet will form part of the procession behind the Calshot Tug Tender to Dock Head and onwards in the path of the RMS Titanic to Osborne Bay to the north of East Cowes.  There will be a commemorative wreath laying ceremony and the Red Jet will return to Southampton at 13.45.  This price includes a special souvenir ticket, a copy of the official event programme and a finger buffet on board. Children must be over 14 years of age.  Tickets are selling fast and are available for sale until 12:00 on Thursday 5 April 2012.
