Red Funnel makes sailing to Cowes Week a breeze
28-06-2002 Red Funnel, the original Isle of Wight ferry operator, is operating more Red Jet Hi-Speed passenger sailings to get you to ‘Cowes Week’ sailing festival, quicker and easier than ever before. They are also launching an extended selection of year-round ‘learn to sail’ short break packages.
Skandia Life Cowes Week, 3rd to 10th August 2002, is one of the world’s largest and most famous yachting regattas with professional and amateur sailors from around the world disembarking in Cowes to race by day and party by night.
To cope with demand, Red Funnel is operating three crossings per hour at peak times between Southampton and West Cowes on the Isle of Wight throughout the event, with a journey time of 22 minutes.
Sailing is the lifeblood of Cowes. Not only does it host its annual event, but it is the base of GBR Challenge, the first British team to enter the America’s Cup in more than 15 Years, sponsored by Red Funnel. It is also home to Ellen Macarthur and her team, Offshore Challenges, who have a renewed sponsorship deal with Red Funnel.
Once in Cowes you have the opportunity to get afloat with one of Red Funnel’s selection of sailing tuition packages. Dinghy, keelboat, canoe or powerboat packages can be tailored to individual needs from complete novices wanting a fun day on the water through to those seeking an Royal Yachting Association (RYA) or British Canoe Union (BCU) qualification.
