Red Funnel launch 'learn to sail' weekend breaks in Cowes
01-04-2002 Red Funnel, the original Isle of Wight short breaks operator, has launched ‘learn to sail’ weekend short breaks on the Island, in conjunction with the renowned UK Sailing Academy.
Cowes is a world-famous mecca for professional and amateur sailors. Home to Cowes Week every August, the UK’s largest yachting event, it is the new base of GBR Challenge, the first British team to enter the America’s Cup in more than 15 years. In addition, Cowes is also home to Ellen Macarthur, who shot to fame in last years’ round-the-world Vendée Globe race, and Shirley Robertson, the Sydney Olympic gold medallist.
Red Funnel has teamed up with the largest sailing instruction establishment on the Isle of Wight, the UK Sailing Academy (UKSA), to offer everyone the chance to take to the water, Cowes-style.
A two-night weekend sailing break, including tuition and accommodation at the waterfront New Holmwood Hotel in Cowes, costs from £284 per adult. Sailing instruction is from 0900 on Saturdays through to 1430 on Sundays and the break includes return ferry crossing from Southampton to Cowes and accommodation on a half-board basis.
