Red Funnel joins forces with IKEA
14-01-2009 Southampton based ferry operator Red Funnel has agreed a strategic marketing deal with IKEA to coincide with the opening of the Swedish retailer’s Southampton store.
Red Osprey, one of Red Funnel’s vehicle ferries operating between Southampton and the Isle of Wight, has been rebranded in IKEA’s familiar blue and yellow livery for the next 12 months. The vessel is set to become a familiar sight to 3 million Red Funnel customers, recreational users on the Solent as well as those living along the route.
IKEA has also partnered with Red Funnel for its home deliveries to the Isle of Wight to make sure that Island residents have access to the iconic store. Located on West Quay road, the new store is only a two-minute drive from Red Funnel’s Terminals, so it’s perfect for Island residents who want to revamp their living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens.
Jonathan Green, Red Funnel’s Sales & Marketing Director said: “Red Funnel is delighted to be working with IKEA on this and other projects. The opening of the new store will be a huge asset to Southampton and the Isle of Wight, and the rebranding of the ship is an exciting and innovative method of promoting this."
Allesandra Taffe, store manager of Southampton IKEA, commented: “The ferry looks fantastic and we’re all really looking forward to seeing it on the water. It also shows how committed we are to residents of the Isle of Wight by ensuring they have access to our furniture. We are so proud of everything the new store is going to offer the city and we want everyone to know that come February 12 we’ll be ready to furnish homes across the region.”
