Red Funnel hails 2014 IW Festival a major success
17-06-2014 Red Funnel is celebrating the success of this year’s legendary Isle of Wight Festival which saw headliners Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kings of Leon enthral some 50,000 festivalgoer’s.
The Isle of Wight Festival, now in its 13th year marks the start of the summer festival season which culminates with Bestival on the Isle of Wight in September.
Red Funnel carried 18% more cars and 57% more foot passengers on its services from Southampton than in recent years and sold 33% more weekend tickets and 380% more day tickets compared to 2013. The popularity of festival packages was also evident with shuttle bus ticket sales up 127% and river bus tickets up by 100%.
Jonathan Green, marketing & communications director for Red Funnel commented “A lot of time is spent planning for the festival with all the various agencies and stakeholders and it was rewarding that operationally the event ran like clockwork. There was minimal queuing for foot passengers throughout the weekend and sufficient additional late night capacity was in place to get day ticket holders back to the mainland on Saturday and Sunday nights. Our East Cowes traffic management plan, designed to alleviate local congestion once again worked extremely well”.

As per normal for advance ferry bookings, festival vehicle reservations for 2015 can be secured with a deposit of just £25, the balance is then due 30 days before departure.
