Red Funnel achieves ISO 9000 accreditation for shipboard management
01-04-2008 Red Funnel, the Isle of Wight ferry and transport operator, has recently been awarded the prestigious ISO 9000 registration for ship management operations.
The company has showed its commitment to quality and safe practices by implementing a new safety and quality management system in order to obtain the ISO certificate, which is given following rigorous audits and reviews carried out by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) Quality Assurance Branch.
In addition to this the company has also recently been awarded Gold Medal Award status by RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, for the eighth year consecutive year. The award is given to companies that employ good health and safety practices to help keep accidents and ill-health at work to a minimum.
“Quality and safety has always been the primary objective for Red Funnel and we’ve always been proud of the recognition that RoSPA has given us over the past eight years. To build on this success we undertook a total review of how we handle safety management within the ship management part of our business. Our next step is working towards ISO 14001, for international recognition for environmentally responsible ship management”, said Captain Mark Thomson, Marine Manager, Red Funnel.
Red Funnel’s ship management operations will continue to undergo surveillance audits in order to ensure that the quality standards are upheld by the operation.
“I am delighted with the work that the team here at Red Funnel continues to do in order to achieve these awards and certificates for our quality and safety practices. It’s paramount to the company that we ensure the health and safety of our crew and passengers”, said Tom Docherty, Managing Director, Red Funnel.
