New spring menus earn Wight Marque Gold status

20-03-2015 Red Funnel launches spring menu and earns locally sourced food award 

With Easter just around the corner, Red Funnel is unveiling its new spring food menu on its Southampton-East Cowes route.

The new spring range focuses heavily on local produce sourced from the Isle of Wight and includes a ratatouille tart topped with Island soft cheese, courgette frittatas and, for the first time, delicious crepes with options for vegetarians. Following customer feedback, smaller portion sizes are also being introduced for guests who are put off by large meals.

The company is taking major steps towards sourcing 60% of its produce locally, with a large percentage from Isle of Wight producers - Island Brewery are now an official supplier. Red Funnel is also extending the range and quality of wines stocked on board.

The new food and wine range will be available on Red Funnel’s Southampton-East Cowes route from 27 March to coincide with the return to service of the exciting new-look Red Osprey following her £2.2m interior refit.

For corporate functions and events held on board Red Falcon and Red Osprey, a new spring buffet menu is available. The menu includes artisan breads and dipping oils, a crevette and smoked salmon platter, smoked mackerel and horseradish pate, a wide selection of hand-crafted sandwiches, Island chutneys, green salads, spicy aromatic rice and savoury couscous and a selection of delicious cakes, tarts and pastries.

Red Funnel now sources sufficient ingredients from the Island to qualify for the Wight Marque Gold Standard. Devised by the Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Society, Wight Marque aims to help customers identify and buy genuine Isle of Wight products, as well as encourage Island businesses to trade together and promote the Island as a quality food destination.
