New foot passenger fares announced
07-01-2009 Red Funnel is pleased to announce a range of new foot passenger fares for 2009.
The new Red Jet Hi-Speed and Vehicle Ferry foot passenger rates include a new discounted Youth Fare, and extensions to the great value off-peak, group and family fare durations making them more accessible.
From Monday 12 January, Red Jet customers departing from Cowes after 0915, Monday to Friday, or all day on Saturday and Sunday, will be able to take advantage of off-peak fares on all types of day and period return. Previously this fare was only available on weekdays and travel was restricted between 1715 and 1815. For the first time, customers departing from Southampton will be able to enjoy off-peak fares all weekend, with no restrictions on when they return, perfect for friends and family visiting the Island.
In response to feedback from the Isle of Wight Youth Council, Red Funnel have introduced a new Youth Fare for those aged 16-19.This new off-peak day and period return fare is just £8.00, offering a saving of up to 47% on adult off-peak fares. The fare can be claimed upon production of a valid Student Rider Card, passport, driving license or ValidateUK card.
Senior Citizen and Family Hi-Speed Red Jet fares remain unchanged for now, and those travelling with these tickets also benefit from the new extended off-peak fare periods.
Red Funnel have also changed the terms of their Group Travel fare, so that groups of four or more travelling together on both the Vehicle Ferry and Red Jet can receive a discount of 25% on standard off-peak adult or child tickets. Previously, the Group Travel fare was only valid for groups of twelve or more.
Rates for 6 and 12 month Red Jet Season tickets are to be held at 2008 prices at this time. Rates for 7 and 30 day Season Tickets are to increase from £73.50 to £80 and £230 to £250 respectively. Books of tickets and standard day and period returns will also increase by 5%.
The Vehicle Ferry service will see the introduction of a new Family Day Return Ticket at £25. The ticket applies to parties of three or four, which include at least one child under 15, and one adult aged at least 16. All other vehicle ferry foot passenger fares will increase by up to 7%.
Red Funnel has also introduced a new Accompanied Child Fare. You can now purchase a special Adult Day Return ticket and a child (5-15 years) can travel free in one direction. The adult must return on the next available sailing.

As a result, we have extended our off-peak fares to 7 days a week and introduced new Island youth fares and discounts for small groups. In addition, 6 & 12 month season tickets, senior citizens fares and family tickets have all been frozen at previous levels.”
