Red Funnel reveals new autumn/winter menu for 2015

25-11-2015 With the winter months approaching, Red Funnel has launched comfort food at its finest in its new autumn/winter menu, available on board now.

Red Funnel has worked with Wight Kitchen, the food producers based in Northwood, Cowes, to produce a new menu focussing on traditional, locally sourced produce from the Isle of Wight. The menu includes a luxury fish pie, beef cobbler and a gluten free vegetable moussaka as well as, for the first time, a selection of grab and go options (at the terminals only).

Red Funnel and Wight Kitchen gave customers and staff the chance to have their say during taster sessions to determine the final dishes on the new menu. The teams worked to create a menu that would not only please customers, but would also be practical to serve on board. Feedback highlighted that more vegetarian and gluten-free options were needed, which has led to the inclusion of six vegetarian choices, including a mixed chilli and gluten free vegetable moussaka.  

Also new to the menu this winter are Red Funnel’s grab-and-go hot pots, which offer a lighter alternative to a full meal and include chicken or vegetable noodles and chicken curry, with additional recipes being added in the near future.

Macaroni cheese has also been selected as a new addition to the children's menu, which aims to give parents a variety of healthy options for their youngsters at a smaller portion size.

To spice things up, a new Living Larder local Island dish will be on offer every four to six weeks. Living Larder is a family business based at Galley Horne, Isle of Wight. Living Larder picks and delivers the produce on the same day to ensure maximum freshness and flavour for every ingredients in these dishes.

Lauren Morton at Wight Kitchen said: “There is so much quality produce on the Isle of Wight. Locally-sourced products will be at the centre of our ‘Living Larder local Island dish each time, giving passengers a truly seasonal meal that supports local businesses.”

Red Funnel was recently awarded a Wight Marque Gold Standard from the Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Society for its commitment to sourcing 60% of all produce locally for use on its ferries.
