Dancing Man nominated for Tourism Award
12 February 2018 – Red Funnel's very own Jim the 'Dancing Man' O'Reilly has been nominated for VisitEngland's 2018 Tourism Superstar Award.
Now in their 7th year, and supported by national media partner the Daily Mirror, the awards recognise and celebrate those in the tourism industry who go the extra mile to ensure tourists in England have an unforgettable visitor experience. Nominees are passionate about where they work and the destination they live in and consistently set the bar high for the standard of service in England's tourism industry.
A familiar figure to those who use Red Funnel's Southampton-East Cowes route to the Isle of Wight, Jim O'Reilly has entertained countless travellers and tourists embarking and disembarking the ferries with his signature dance moves, earning him the nickname Jim 'The Dancing Man'. Jim is up against nine other nominees across England including candidates from Bath, York and Dorset and hopes to put the Isle of Wight on the map.
A resident of Cowes, Jim genuinely enjoys making people smile as they start and end their ferry journey. Jim commented "I'm out there in the sun, the rain and the snow. Rain or shine I do what I do because people enjoy it. It's all good fun. I thoroughly enjoy it and I think it shows. I'm not just going through the motions, I treat everyone as a friend, just as I would wish to be treated. So please vote for me if I've helped start or end your visit to the Isle of Wight with a smile. I'm out there having fun, and if you are too that's fantastic."
The whole team at Red Funnel are fully behind Jim and hope that customers will take the time to go online and vote too.
Murray Carter, Customer Services Director, Red Funnel said: "We are absolutely thrilled about Jim's nomination for the VisitEngland Tourism Superstar Award. Jim completely embodies everything this award stands for and he is a wonderful ambassador for Red Funnel and the Isle of Wight. I hope everyone who has ever found themselves smiling because of Jim will take a moment and vote!"
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Bath on 23 April. Red Funnel and destination management organisation Visit Isle of Wight are encouraging the public to get involved and show their support by voting for Jim.
Voting is open until midnight on 20th March 2018 and a link to the online voting page can be found at redfunnel.co.uk/voteforjim
