Last chance to vote in 2016 My Isle of Wight Awards
23-12-2016 – Does the Isle of Wight hold your favourite, cherished memories of relaxing at a quaint local pub, lying on a picturesque beach, sleeping in at a cosy bed & breakfast or of fun-filled family time at a country park or attraction?
Whether you've found your beloved place to eat a homemade burger, drink Island ales, make a pit stop whilst out adventuring, or even to hideaway, now is your chance to show your appreciation by awarding the venues and locations that are home to your best experiences.
Red Funnel's 2016 myIsleofWight awards showcases standouts of the Island's tourism industry, chosen by visitors to the destination.
But don't miss out on the chance to cast a vote for your favourites as voting closes on Saturday 31 December.
The Island's only visitor voted-for awards are on for the fifth year running, and there are a variety of new and exciting nominees and categories to vote for, including 'Best Place for Family Fun', 'Best Place for Arts & Culture' and 'Best Way to Explore Outdoors'. They reflect the format of Red Funnel's myIsleofWight.com; The Island Independent Guide, with 24 award categories covering 'Favourite Places to Eat', 'Best Things to Do', and 'Top Places to Stay'.
The Ralvins, a boutique street food and catering company, is among the businesses nominated. Husband and wife team of foodies, Calvin and Rosie Vercoe, expanded their small kitchen trailer named the 'The Ralvan' by opening a café cabin at Bembridge Harbour's Duver Marina in the summer of 2016. Their locally sourced, world-inspired food offering has already made an impressive impact on those who have visited.
Rosie Vercoe, owner of The Ralvins, said: "We are incredibly humbled to have been nominated in these awards, but ecstatic that we have made a mark big enough for a nomination in such a short time! We love the Isle of Wight and enjoy being ambassadors for everything positive the island has to offer."
Lockslane contemporary bistro in Bembridge is also up for an award. A two-woman band made up of Dawn Hodge and Catherine Bachelor, Lockslane's imaginative menu showcases the best fresh, local and seasonal produce in a down to earth fashion.
Dawn Hodge, owner of Lockslane, said: "'We are really surprised and excited to be nominated for this prestigious award as a tiny little restaurant with just 20 covers that we run between the two of us. Due to our size, we do limited advertising so many of our customers come to us through personal recommendation and word of mouth, which is why this nomination is even more special. We have just completed five years of trading and this recognition of our passion for food is just the icing on the cake!".
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 18 January at Tapnell Farm on the Isle of Wight in Yarmouth. The top three nominees from each category will be invited to find out in person who has won the sought-after, handmade Glory Art Glass trophies, to be presented by Kevin George, Red Funnel's CEO.
Jonathan Green, marketing and communications director for Red Funnel, said: "The suspense is building as the votes come in for visitors' favourite Island destinations, and we can't wait for the winners to be announced at the upcoming awards ceremony. Each nominee is a fantastic business that adds to the uniqueness of the Isle of Wight that people from all over come to experience.
"The talent and hard work of local Island businesses deliver amazing customer services and experiences to those who visit, and we are very proud to recognise this by supporting the awards."
myIsleofWight Editor, Alix Robinson, said: "We're delighted that there are so many new nominees in this years awards – showcasing such fantastic quality. We love that these businesses, who consistently deliver an exceptional visitor experience, are recognized and rewarded for all their hard work and efforts."
