Additional Red Funnel ferry to depart on QE2 Farewell Cruise
14-10-2008 Following high demand, Red Funnel has announced a second cruise to depart from East Cowes to view the QE2’s final departure on 11 November 2008.
The Red Falcon will set sail from Red Funnel’s East Cowes Terminal to celebrate the final departure from Southampton of the most famous serving cruise liner in the world, Cunard's Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2). The Red Falcon will join the Red Eagle, which will be departing from Southampton, to follow the QE2 as she leaves for Dubai where she is destined to become a hotel and shopping venue at Palm Jumeirah.
Launched by the Queen in 1967, the QE2 has had a fascinating career. Since her maiden voyage in 1969 she has carried over 2.5 million passengers, completed 25 world cruises and more than 800 transatlantic crossings, and served as a troop ship in the Falklands war in 1982.
The Red Falcon has two open viewing decks which offer guests the perfect vantage point from which to view the liner as she departs to the sights and sounds of a magnificent fireworks display.
Tickets are £15 for children, £30 for adults and £22 for seniors and include a glass of wine or soft drink, plus live music and family entertainment. There is a tempting selection of hot and cold food and a fully stocked bar so guests can raise a toast as the QE2 leaves the Solent for the final time.
The farewell cruise departs the Red Funnel East Cowes Terminal on Trinity Road at 1800 and returns at approx. 2130. A limited amount of parking (charge applies) is available on the night, with pre-booking is essential.
