Red Funnel Re-Structures Road Transport Business
17-06-2011 Red Funnel Group has announced a strategic partnership with Isle of Wight and Hampshire based Steve Porter Transport Group with effect from 17 June 2011.
Ownership of Red Funnel’s road haulage business, Red Funnel Distribution (RFD), will be transferred to Steve Porter Transport.
RFD is based in Newport and specialises in contract distribution (drop trailers), full loads, groupage and palletised services and is the Isle of Wight agent for BOC Gases. Ownership of this business, together with its employees will be transferred to Steve Porter Transport Group from 17 June 2011.
All driver-accompanied ferry freight, motor trade vehicles and parcel services will continue to be served by Red Funnel’s existing freight team, now to operate from new offices in Cowes.
Steve Porter Transport Ltd. has been established for thirty years and provides a wide range of services locally, across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. The acquisition of Red Funnel Distribution will double its capacity in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, with facilities in Southampton, Portsmouth, Newport and Cowes (Head Office). In addition to core cross-Solent services, SPT operate full and part load trailer services, UK and EU pallet services, contract distribution, storage and a full range of export services. Also within the SPT Group are Technical Packing Services Ltd (design and manufacture of bespoke packing cases) and MTS Shipping Ltd (charter of bulk coasters in UK and Northern European waters).
