My Isle of Wight Awards Nominations and T&C’s
Voting for the 2018 My Isle of Wight Awards, the Island’s only visitor voted for awards, opens on 1st March 2018. Now in its 7th year these awards aim to shine a light on all the fantastic Island tourism businesses offering that extra special experience to their customers.
The awards are free to enter and open to all Isle of Wight tourism businesses.
1.1 Entry to the My Isle of Wight Awards is open to all Isle of Wight tourism businesses and is free to enter.
1.2 New Business can be nominated by happy customers through the ‘Other’ option on the polls.
1.3 Once a business get 10 ‘Other’ votes they are moved onto the main list on the front end. We monitor this in the back end every month through the year and move businesses automatically.
1.4 Nominees who have secured the qualifying amount of votes will appear in the main list on the front end of the website.
1.5 These nominees will remain on the front end until their votes drop below 10/they no longer fulfil the category criteria or they ask to be removed.
2. Category Descriptions:
Best Place for Family Fun
Theme park, animal attraction, historic site or active adventure - this covers all manner of Island attractions that appeal to families with children of all ages.
Eligible businesses: Attractions/theme parks/country parks/activity providers/animal parks/heritage sites/family events.
Best Place for Arts, Heritage & Culture
From galleries to castles, palaces to museums, where do you get the best cultural and artistic fix?
Eligible businesses: Heritage sites & attractions/galleries/museums/cultural & artistic events/arts, heritage & culture activity providers.
Best Water-Based Activity Provider
How do you like to get wet the best? Surfing, sailing, kayaking, kitesurfing, water skiing, fishing with so much water all around who stands out offering the best service and facilities/tuition?
Eligible businesses: Businesses/activity/events providers offering experiences on and in the water.
Best Way to Explore Outdoors
What’s your favourite way to get out and explore the Island’s diverse and beautiful countryside, parks and gardens – be it an organised walk, event or a solitary perambulation?
Eligible businesses: Parks/gardens/country park/events/attractions/activity providers offering experiences outdoors.
Best Land-Based Activity Provider
From mountain boarding and skateboarding, to clay shooting and geocaching – there’s stacks to do across the Island.
Eligible businesses: Businesses/activity providers/attractions/events offering experiences on land/in the air.
Best Place to make a Furry Friend
Llamas, Meer cats, tigers, monkey, donkeys and more – the island is awash with wildlife – but who’s your favourite?
Eligible businesses: Attractions/businesses/activity providers who work with animals/wildlife.
Best Shop to Pick Up that Something Special
For presents for friends or treats for yourself, which shops sell those extra special goodies?
Eligible businesses: Shops selling interesting food/gifts/arts & crafts – preferably including Island made products.
Best Event to Lie Back & Soak Up the Sounds
Which event is your top choice for relaxing and enjoying your favourite music or discovering new music?
Eligible businesses: Festivals, fayres, gigs, charity events, theatre, community events that include music.
The Ultimate Hotel Experience
Who offers above and beyond in terms of service, facilities and experience?
Eligible businesses: Accommodation providers offering hotel services from B&B to full board, with facilities and services commensurate with a hotel.
Best Place to Go Glamping
From yurts and teepees to lodges, helicopters and shepherd’s huts – who takes glamping to the next level in comfort, facilities and added luxuries?
Eligible businesses: Accommodation providers offering glamourous camping (non-permanent structures), with facilities more luxurious than traditional camping.
Most Luxurious B&B
Who matches fluffiest pillows, cloud like duvets and the most comfortable beds, in beautifully decorated surrounds, with first class ensuite facilities all matched with the best and most satisfying breakfast?
Eligible businesses: Accommodation providers offering an outstanding B&B experience from the rooms & ensuites, to the breakfast.
Best Boutique Retreat
Lighthouses, chapels, manors, cabins and pods – there are some truly exciting and luxurious places to stay across the Island – but who gets your vote as the most unique?
Eligible businesses: Accommodation providers who offer self catering/B&B/full board in a diverse range of forms (permanent structures). A unique place to stay combining the perks of a boutique hotel/stunning locations/innovative design & décor, with the privacy and independence of high end self catering facilities.
Best Place to Hook Up (Caravans & Touring)
Where is your favourite spot for relaxing, in beautiful surrounds with great facilities – to hook up and enjoy the Island from your home from home?
Eligible businesses: Caravan/touring/static caravan sites and holiday parks with great facilities and/or great locations.
Best Place for a Shin Dig
Keep sharing the island with friends and family? Or celebrating a big event, anniversary – where is the best place to have a get together on the island that can sleep over 10 people?
Eligible businesses: Accommodation for 10+ people booking together for an occasion/group holiday.
Best Rustic Camping Experience
Just you, your tent and a stunning view – where offers the best of less, while still delivering the essentials?
Eligible businesses: Campsites/holiday parks/accommodation providers offering camping pitches (seasonal) in beautiful surroundings but without the luxury or facilities of glamping.
With so many amazing self-catering offerings across the Island this one is a tough one. But from cottages perched on a cliff to ones hidden in a valley or in plain sight among many others just offering that something extra in terms of getting ‘hygge’– where is your favourite self-catering hideaway?
Eligible businesses: Self catering accommodation (year round) in rural, remote, hidden or secluded locations, that offer that cosy factor - be it log fires, throws, candles or board games - removed from the fast pace of everyday life.
Best Cuppa & Slice of Something Nice
Where’s your favourite spot to relax and enjoy the best barista coffee, speciality blend teas, delicious cakes and pastries, or just a great cup of builders?
Eligible businesses: Cafes/coffee shops/bars/restaurants/teashops offering really good hot beverages, and/or cakes/pastries, using the best quality ingredients, catering for a wide range of tastes.
Homemade/Local Produce Champion
Who goes above and beyond with their efforts to promote, make, sell, Isle of Wight goodies and ingredients?
Eligible businesses: All tourism businesses/chefs/shop/restaurants/producers/hotels/B&B’s that make promoting Island made/grown at the heart of what they do.
Best Place for a Pint of Island Ale
Where is the cosiest and most characterful pub, preferably with roaring log fire and comfy chairs, to enjoy a pint of Holy Joe to Fuddle de Dum?
Eligible businesses: Characterful pubs/ale houses serving Island ale.
Best Gastronomic Experience
Innovative, exciting, original food served in new and interesting ways, using the freshest ingredients. Catering for all diets and tastes but still delivering an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
Eligible businesses: Restaurants/cafes/bistros serving outstanding food, consistently, be it classic British or world fusion inspired. Food that inspires and is utterly memorable.
Best Pit Stop Whilst Out Adventuring
Whether out exploring the Island on foot, by bike or even horseback where is the perfect spot to stop and catch your breath, while enjoying the best refreshments in the most beautiful locations?
Eligible businesses: Cafes/tea shops/restaurants/pubs/bars/coffee shops/hotels in beautiful surroundings that are natural pit stops when exploring the Island.
Best Fish & Chips in Your Hand
Freshly caught and battered, with moist chunky fish and crispy salt and vinegary chips – where serves the best of British in your hand?
Eligible businesses: Fish & Chip shops/restaurants/cafes/mobile pop ups that serve take away fish & chips.
Best Eatery With a Sea View
Cliffside, beachside, hill topped or on the water – where is the best food matched only by the breath-taking sea views?
Eligible businesses: Restaurants/cafes/bistros/bars that serve great food for lunch and/or dinner, which have stunning sea views/are on the water.
The Ultimate Burger
Prime beef, veggie, tempura crab or chicken - who makes the biggest, yummiest, best quality, best value burger?
Eligible businesses: Restaurants/cafes/bistros/bars that serve a great burger (be it veggie/chicken/beef/other) with all the sides to accompany it.
2.4 If businesses are found to not adhere to the category description we reserve the right to disqualify them.
3. Marketing Your Business:
3.1 We promote the Awards throughout the year online, on the ferries and through our social media channels.
3.2 Business downloads: we have a business downloads page where businesses can get graphics for their websites and literature.
3.3 Awards business cards to hand out to customers and window stickers are available on request.
3.4 It is up to businesses to make their customers aware they can vote for them if they have had a great experience.
3.5 Businesses can promote the Awards using the official Awards graphics or their own marketing on their literature, websites and social media.
3.6 Business CANNOT offer a cash/prize incentive to secure votes.
3.7 If businesses are found to be incentivising votes we reserve the right to disqualify them.
4. Key Dates:
4.1 Voting for the 2018 awards will open on 1st March and people can vote at www.myisleofwightawards.com
4.2 Voting is open until 31st December 2018.
