Vehicle Ferry Travel
When you book vehicle ferry travel with us, the prices will vary depending on the size and type of your vehicle, the date and time of your travel, and how busy the individual sailings are. Our vehicle ferry rates currently start at £31 each way - these rates are often available when booking a standard car for a day return, on non-peak days, and at quieter times (usually midweek, and early morning/late evening).
To help you find the best rates, look out for our lowest fare finder when you search availability - this will highlight the cheapest sailings/fares available for your chosen date and ticket type.
BOOK AHEAD FOR THE BEST RATES
Book as far in advance as possible to take advantage of lower rates. You will usually pay more if you book at the last minute.
BE FLEXIBLE WITH YOUR TRAVEL PLANS
You can very often secure better rates by travelling outside of peak times and dates. If you can be flexible with your travel, and can avoid busy sailing times and dates, it is worth considering:
- Mondays and Fridays are usually our busiest days, and therefore will often be “peak”
- School holidays and Bank Holidays are also peak times
- Early mornings and late evenings are usually less popular
- Midweek and Sundays are typically less busy

If you've booked your accommodation elsewhere, you can normally still save on your ferry travel through your accommodation provider. - Academic Day Returns: Students travelling daily to their place of education can purchase 20 Academic Day Return tickets. There are no age restrictions either, so mature students can also apply, as long as they’re in full-time education. Tickets are valid from 1 September to 31 July - each academic year.
- Book with a Railcard: If you have a Railcard and you’re travelling onwards by train, you can purchase your ferry and train tickets together at our West Cowes terminal with the same level of discount that your Railcard would normally provide. You can also choose to book via third-party sites such as Trainline. Please note that there must be a rail element of your journey to qualify for the discount.

Super Off-Peak Tickets
Take advantage of our Super Off-Peak day return rate and travel on either the Red Jet or Vehicle Ferry as a passenger for just £13.50 per person - when a minimum of two people travel together after 10:55. Super Off-Peak tickets are available to buy online and via the app.
Group Tickets
Those travelling in a group of 4 people or more can opt for a Group Ticket and save money against standard individual fares, with both Peak and Off-Peak versions available. Tickets only available from our ticket offices.
Family Tickets
Families of up to four people (including at least one child) are eligible to purchase a Family Day Return, priced at £47.10 – less than £12 per person. This option is available from 09:00 daily. Tickets only available from our ticket offices.

Book using our Island Resident Offer, saving 15% on vehicle ferry travel exclusively for Isle of Wight residents.

Assisted Fares Scheme
Island residents in receipt of eligible benefits or Universal Credit can apply for our Assisted Fares Scheme.
Escorted Children
If you’re travelling to drop off or pick up your children, ask for an ‘Escorted Child ticket’ in East/West Cowes ticket office. The child ticket will then be free of charge, and you need only pay for the adult return. The offer works for up to 2 children (0-12yrs) per travelling adult – you just need to return on the next available sailing.
Job Seekers Scheme
We’ve teamed up with Jobcentre Plus to help registered unemployed Island residents who are looking for work on the mainland. Enjoy reduced cross-Solent travel costs for up to 18 months – ideal for travel to job interviews or for getting you to work once you find a position.
Youth Fares
If you’re aged 16-19, you can purchase a Youth fare and save on your foot passenger travel. This fare is offered exclusively on travel departing the Island and can be purchased online or in East/West Cowes ticket office. Return tickets are £14.90 on either route, while single trips are £12.60 from East Cowes and £14.30 from West Cowes.
