The Isle of Wight plays host to the final stage of the UK’s most prestigious cycle race, the Tour of Britain, on Sunday 11th September. This is the first time the iconic race has visited the Island, promising to be great sporting spectacle.

Nineteen of the world’s top teams and over 100 pro riders will race across the Island’s varied and picturesque landscape, with competitors pushing off from Ryde and finishing 150km later with an arduous climb to the Needles New Battery.

The race passes through many of the Island’s towns and villages, journeying through Ryde, Bembridge, Sandown, Rookley, Shorwell, Mottistone, Freshwater, Yarmouth, Shalfleet, Cowes, Newport, Godshill, Shanklin, Ventnor, Niton to finish at The Needles.

There are plenty of great spots to catch the peloton along the way, from the snaking turns in and out of Ventnor to the stunning backdrop of the Military Road – this is an event not to be missed.

Spectators can look forward to a real festival atmosphere on race day, as the Isle of Wight comes together to welcome the Tour of Britain and celebrate cycling. Why not make a day of it and pick a spot to cheer competitors with a picnic, or book into your favourite place to eat and catch the race.

The Tour of Britain will be televised live on ITV4 in the UK and around the world by Eurosport and the Global Cycling Network (GCN). A one-hour highlights show will also be shown each evening so you can keep track of the results ahead of the final Island stage.
