The Isle of Wight Memorial Ploughing Match, attended by almost 100 ploughmen and women, takes place at New Wolverton Farm, Shorwell on Sunday 7 April 2019, between 9.30am to 4.30pm. The event features horse drawn plough's, vintage tractors and their modern equivalents and entry is free of charge. It makes for a lovely day out for the family and a rare opportunity to learn about the Isle of Wight's agricultural past...and present.

The Memorial Ploughing Match first took place in 2009 at Mottistone Manor Farm to remember four ploughmen who were members of the Isle of Wight Traction Engine Club who sadly all passed away in 2008. The event was a great success and has run every year since raising significant sums for the Isle of Wight's Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

The entrance donations and any further funds raised (after expenses) are given to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and in the first year over £2,000 was raised.

"The ploughing match idea was originally thought up to remember Steve, who was himself a keen ploughman. The passing away of three further ploughmen changed our ideas slightly and we decided to have one match to remember them all. Everyone has supported the idea as a great way of remembering some very much loved people. The idea of raising money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice at the same time, has been greatly received as everyone seems to have known somebody whose lives have been touched by the care shown at the Hospice".   Karen Sheath - 2009
