Randonnee with Mountbatten is the Isle of Wight’s iconic annual cycling challenge, bringing together thousands of riders to complete a 100km clockwise route around the Island while supporting Mountbatten’s vital hospice and bereavement services. Open to cyclists aged 16 and over, the event celebrates community spirit, personal achievement and the spectacular scenery of the Isle of Wight.

Unlike a race, the Randonnee is a non-competitive event that encourages participants to ride at their own pace. Cyclists can start from any of the seven official checkpoints located around the Island before joining the route and collecting stamps as they complete the circuit. From dramatic coastal views and rolling countryside to charming villages and historic landmarks, the route showcases some of the Island’s most beautiful landscapes.

The event has been a cherished Island tradition for more than 40 years. Built by the Wayfarers Cycling Club, the Randonnee has become renowned for its welcoming atmosphere, dedicated volunteers and strong sense of community. Mountbatten is honoured to have been entrusted with the event’s future, ensuring this much-loved challenge continues to thrive for generations to come while staying true to the values that have made it so special. The familiar checkpoints, community spirit and welcoming atmosphere remain at the heart of the event, alongside exciting new additions that will help secure its future.

The Randonnee is about more than cycling. Through sponsorship and fundraising, the event helps support Mountbatten’s compassionate care across the Isle of Wight. It also benefits the wider community, with checkpoints run by local organisations including school PTAs, Women's Institute groups, rugby clubs and other volunteers, who raise funds through refreshments and activities on the day.

Whether taking part for the challenge, the cause or simply the enjoyment of cycling around the Island, riders play a part in supporting local people and strengthening community connections across the Isle of Wight.
