Project Seagrass Fragment Walk
Support seagrass restoration on the Isle of Wight by joining Project Seagrass for a Fragment Walk!
What's On
One of the methods that Project Seagrass are trialling to restore seagrass around the Isle of Wight is to collect and replant seagrass fragments.
Strong winds and waves can dislodge fragments of seagrass which then wash up along local shores. During a Fragment Walk, you will join members of the Project Seagrass team to explore the beach and collect and replant dislodged fragments as part of ongoing restoration efforts.
As part of Project Seagrass's restoration efforts around the Solent, they will be restoring 3.5 ha of seagrass. For this project to be a success they need the support of the local community!
This is where you come in!
How to get there:
Meet by the Old Church at St Helen's. This is a pay and display carpark, however there is free road parking and buses to the site.
After meeting at the Old Church, you'll visit the Fragment Collection Point for a quick briefing and to collect any deposited fragments, before proceeding on a gentle walk along the beach towards Priory Bay.
Once there, any fragments harvested will be processed and replanted into the bay, contributing to ongoing restoration efforts.
