THE WONDERFULLY DIFFERENT ISLE OF WIGHT
Planning a UK summer holiday? Don’t follow the crowds to Devon and Cornwall, instead swap long, hot, car journeys and narrow roads for a 1-hour scenic ferry ride to our wonderfully different Island – where everything is in easy reach!
Here’s five brilliant things to do right here on the Isle of Wight that you won’t find in the UK’s other holiday hotspots.
Travel to the Isle of Wight with Red Funnel from just £35.95pp based on four people travelling together in a car – and dogs travel free!
1. Cool down with a garlic ice cream
Vampires beware, the Isle of Wight plays home to the UK’s largest specialist garlic farm. At ‘The Garlic Farm’, you’ll find a selection of smoky sweet garlicky treats to sample, take home or enjoy at the farm’s restaurant – including Newchurch Black Garlic Ice Cream!
2. Take a ski-lift to the beach
Who needs stairs when you’ve got a 1920’s chairlift to get you down the cliff side! A favourite visitor pastime since its installation in 1973, the Needles Chairlift offers spectacular views of the Island’s most iconic landmark and 21 colour cliffs as you descend onto Alum Bay below.
3. Walk in dino country
The Island is one of Europe’s richest locations for dinosaur discovery. At Compton (Hanover Point) and Yaverland, you might spot fossilised dinosaur footprint on the beach and at low tide, as well as being in with a chance of finding something prehistoric among the pebbles!
4. Explore a Queen’s palace by the sea
While Cornwall has grand houses, it doesn’t have a royal residence. On the Isle of Wight, you’ll find Queen Victoria’s beloved holiday estate ‘Osborne’, complete with Italianate style palace, Mediterranean gardens and a private beach to discover.
5. Arrive by sea!
Forget the hustle and bustle of motorways and embrace a short 1-hour sail to your holiday destination with Red Funnel. Sailing from Southampton, you’ll arrive on the Island in under 60 minutes. A journey complete with panoramic Solent views, plenty of leg room and fresh sea breeze – you can even treat yourself to a full English or a cold pint on route!
And in addition to the above, we’ve got 25+ idyllic beaches, over 50 attractions and activities, miles of rolling countryside, and an abundance of local produce and fabulous food spots to discover!
