Gather your loved ones and sail to Southampton to make some magical memories on the mainland this winter

From panto to light shows, we've found plenty of ways to get in the festive spirit! Sail straight into Southampton City Centre from West Cowes on our Hi-speed Red Jet service with prices starting at £13.50pp when two or more people travel together after 11am - just ask for the Super Off Peak day return!

Southampton Christmas Market

From 13 November to 5 January, the city centre will be transformed into a Bavarian winter wonderland complete with live entertainment, as Southampton Christmas Market comes to town. Experience the fun of the fair with all-new, exhilarating rides such as the breathtaking 60-metre Star Flyer, and the Snowball Launcher - the world's tallest mobile bungee!

Browse over 20 cosy chalet stalls of crafts and gifts, sample delicious street food, and be dazzled by an incredible laser show projected on the stone walls of the Bargate, watching with a warming mulled wine or stein of beer. With entertainment for all ages, the market is a must-visit for getting into the spirit of the season. Keep the kids busy with a skating session at Westquay on Ice between 22 November & 5 January, soaking up the wintry setting and twinkling fairy lights. 

Carlton Place Market

Carlton Place is home to one of the city's most popular monthly markets. With a series of special Christmas markets taking place on 1 November and 6 December, it's a great place to pick up stocking fillers. Browse stalls offering fine handmade produce from jams and chutneys through to candles and sweet treats from a range of local and artisan producers. There'll also be live music from 10am to 4pm, a lively buzz from the bars nearby. 

Winter Makers Market

Soton Makers Market returns over 6-7 and 13-14 December, taking up residence in Gods House Tower, a fascinating arts venue. Discover unusual and original works of art from local artists, as well as handcrafted ornaments and trinkets. Perfect for finding something truly unique to gift to your loved ones!

Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market

Just a short drive or train ride away from Southampton you’ll find Winchester, and its beautiful cathedral market. Wander rows of wooden chalets offering traditional treats like sweet roasted chestnuts, as well as beautifully created one-off arts and crafts - ideal unique gifts for loved ones. The market is free to enter and open daily from 21 November to 22 December. Take some time to explore Winchester, the former capital city of England, with its fascinating landmarks and a bustling high street.

Mayflower Theatre


Mayflower Theatre & Studios

Take to your seats for some spectacular shows this winter. Little ones will love the adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man, or Counting Down to Christmas, a sensory-friendly show for young audiences, both at Mayflower Studios

Meanwhile at Mayflower Theatre, mature audiences may enjoy the Irish-inspired A Fairytale for Christmas featuring hits from the emerald isle or Step Into Christmas, a feel-good music show jam-packed with festive favourites. This year's big panto production, The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan, takes place from 13 December - 4 January and features ITV's X Factor winner Alexandra Burke as Captain Hook alongside other familiar faces. With incredible special effects, the show promises to take the whole family on a swashbuckling adventure to Neverland.

You can catch hot new film releases from the comfort of your leather recliner at Showcase Cinema de Lux in Westquay South, such as Wicked: For Good (21 November), Avatar: Fire and Ash (19 December), The Spongebob Movie: Search for SquarePants (26 December), or Marty Supreme (1 January), amongst others!

Just a short walk from our terminal - or a quick free trip on the Quayconnect bus - Westquay is a one-stop-shop for all of your Christmas needs, with retailers such as Hotel Chocolat selling tempting treats, Lush Cosmetics for a smorgasbord of smellies, John Lewis with luxury gifts and gadgets, and high street labels such as Zara and H&M for the perfect party outfit. Glow Marwell


Glow Marwell

Experience the zoo after dark at Glow Marwell on selected evenings between 28 November and 3 January. A magical trail of immersive illuminations focusing on the natural world, their dazzling displays will provide an awe-inspiring experience, as well as the perfect backdrop for all your seasonal snaps. Enhance your visit by stopping for winter warmers such as luxury hot chocolate and traditional Bavarian bratwurst. Glow Marwell tickets also include daytime access to the zoo to make it a fantastically festive full day out!

Steam Illuminations

Book your seats aboard The Watercress Line in Alton on selected dates between November and January for an unforgettable ride through the South Downs on an illuminated steam train! Marvel at the locomotives adorned with thousands of vibrant lights for Christmas, setting the night sky ablaze with a mesmerising display of colour and steam, paired with Christmas music and entertainment.

Light Up Hillier Gardens

Between 27 November and 3 January, discover enchanting illuminations at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey, just outside Southampton. 180 acres of stunning gardens will be transformed by displays of light and sound, making for a memorable evening for every member of the family. Find pop-up bars and stalls serving up hog roast, Yorkshire pudding wraps, crêpes, churros and more.

Santa's Grotto at the Christmas Market

From 13 November all the way through to 24 December, children can meet Father Christmas in his Bargate grotto. No pre-booking is required, and each child will receive a small gift. There's also the option to capture the memory with a family photo that can also be turned into a keepsake like a bauble or fridge magnet! Father Christmas and Festive Crafts

Southampton's historic Tudor House Museum and Garden will open its doors to young visitors on select dates from 6-22 December, where they can meet the man himself in their Banqueting Hall. Each child will receive a gift, a craft activity, a hot chocolate or juice and a festive biscuit! Finish off the experience by exploring the museum and partaking in the Tudor House Mouse Trail. 

A Tea Party with Santa

Head to John Lewis between 11 & 14 December for a festive tea party. Join Santa for storytelling while the kids sip on cocoa and enjoy a sweet treat, with adult tickets including a hot drink and a tasty slice of cake - perfect for a spot of respite from the Christmas shopping crowds.
