5 ways to spend February Half Term on the Isle of Wight
Robin Hill
Set in 88 rolling acres of parkland, there is so much to see and do at Robin Hill for all the family.
For little ones, you’ll find woodland playgrounds, a mini village, a jumping pillow, tractor rides, wobbly bridges, a maze, toboggan and more. There’s also a canopy sky walk through the treetops, idyllic walks through the park and the chance to try your hand at falconry!
Older kids will love the Adrenaline Zone, a separate park of the park exclusively for thrill seekers! Not for the faint hearted, glide through the skies on an aerial roller coaster, take on the high ropes and try your hand at climbing!
Feeling hungry? You’ll find plenty of cafes and snack shacks at Robin Hill, as well as ice cream and smoothie huts and an excellent restaurant, The Smoke House.
Robin Hill is dog-friendly too!
Tapnell Farm
For families with children, head to award-winning Tapnell Farm Park in the West Wight. With so much to see and do, your day will be full of exploration and adventure with go-karts, jumping pillows, trim trails, play barn, animal paddocks and barn. The February Half-Term, the kids will love the Bouncy Barn, a high-energy event for all ages, with a huge range of inflatable activities. This all-weather attraction is an Island-favourite and great fun for everyone.
Feeling hungry? The Cow is a family-friendly, award-winning restaurant right next to Tapnell Farm Park. Delicious home-made burgers, steaks and a great selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes are on the menu, all prepared with fresh local produce.
Stay for a while… Tapnell Farm also offers an incredible range of self-catering and glamping places to stay, all beautifully nestled in the unspoilt countryside.
Meet Exotic Animals
Animal lovers head to Amazon World and visit over 100 different species, including sloths, armadillos, anteater, red panda, crocodiles, lizards and so much more. The perfect all-weather day-out. While there, little ones can run wild in Monkey Madness, the on-site soft play area while the adults sit back and relax with refreshments.
Right across the road from Amazon World you’d find The Fighting Cocks, a popular family friendly pub with an extensive kids play area.
Nearby, you’ll also find the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm is a great pitstop for local produce for a little taste of the Island to take home with you. Tire out the kids with walking trails around the farm, looking out for red squirrels, peacocks, highland cattle along the way.
You’ll find plenty of places to visit for a fun filled day out!
Isle of Wight Story Festival
The Isle of Wight Story Festival is a special event for children and families to have fun together.
Over 3 days in February half-term (19-21 February), you can expect appearances by popular children's authors, storytelling and performances, and plenty of hands-on activities including origami workshops, secret library workshop, cartoon character design and more! The event will be held at the Quay Arts Centre in Newport, a perfect venue for all things creative. Event tickets are available to buy online here or from Quay Arts Centre, ranging from £5 to £7 - with free things to do too!
Spend some time by the sea
Wrap up warm and discover the Island’s coastline this February half-term. It’s a great time to crunch across the sands in wellies, skimming stones, sipping hot chocolate and watching the waves. For sandy beaches with far-reaching wet sands, we recommend Sandown Bay, Shanklin Beach and Appley Beach. For fossil hunting head for Compton Bay, Yaverland, and Brook, or to collect sea glass try Fort Victoria or Cowes Beach.
Family Time (with teenagers)
If you’re hoping to spend some quality time as a family, but struggling to find ‘teenager approved’ activities this February Half-Term, then look no further. Check out these ideas:
Rocket Ronnie’s – A family friendly pool hall and sports bar! There are two on the Island, Newport or Ryde!
- Calm & Chaos - It’s the best way to blow off some steam… smash up some plates, destroy old electronics, break some bottles, all in a safe and controlled environment. The ultimate stress relief with tons of fun at the same time!
Snacks & Ladders Board Game Café – Perfect for all ages, this board game café has an entire library of games for all ages, a incredible food & drink menu and an impressive list of cocktails and mocktails.
