St Helen’s Green is one of the largest village greens in the UK with far reaching views to Bembridge Harbour and the Solent beyond and Dan’s Kitchen sits on the south side. Offering fine dining for over five years, the restaurant is a mecca for those who like good food and friendly service.

Owner and chef Dan Maskell formerly worked in Michelin starred restaurants and his wife Carla is front of house. Although the accent is on smart, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and staff members are very helpful, suggesting wines to accompany your choices if required.

Local produce features on the menu and the daily specials board and their best sellers are battered fish with triple-cooked chips, and locally smoked haddock with spinach and quails’ egg risotto. Desserts might include their orange cheesecake with rhubarb crumble and blood orange sorbet or Bourbon biscuit, salted peanut caramel with Horlicks ice cream.

There’s a great choice for vegetarians and children can order smaller versions from the main menu. Food allergies are catered for – just ask.

The restaurant is modern and minimalist with artwork by local artists with a sea theme exhibited on the walls. Etched glass doors open to the green on sunny days and there are a few tables outside on the pavement for dining al fresco.

Open for lunch and dinner it is always advisable to book as Dan’s Kitchen is second on the Trip Advisor ratings for the Island and is often very busy.
