passenger code of conduct

Red Funnel is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and respectful environment for all passengers, visitors and employees.

This Code of Conduct applies to all passengers using Red Funnel services, including within our terminals, marshalling areas, car parks, onboard our vessels, and when interacting with Red Funnel employees through any communication channel. It applies to behaviour before, during and immediately after travel where that behaviour is connected to the use of Red Funnel services.

When travelling with Red Funnel, passengers are expected to, including but not limited to:

  • Treat fellow passengers and employees with courtesy and respect.
  • Follow all lawful and reasonable instructions given by crew, terminal staff and other authorised representatives of Red Funnel.
  • Comply with all safety procedures, announcements and signage.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that does not cause disruption, alarm, distress, intimidation or nuisance to others.
  • Refrain from abusive, threatening, discriminatory, aggressive or violent behaviour.
  • Not travel under the influence of alcohol or drugs to a level that affects their behaviour, judgement or ability to follow instructions.
  • Respect the property, facilities and equipment of Red Funnel and other passengers travelling.
  • Not attempt to travel using invalid, altered, counterfeit or otherwise fraudulent tickets, bookings or travel documents.

Raising Concerns

If you witness behaviour that causes concern, or if you feel unsafe, threatened, harassed or otherwise affected by the behaviour of another passenger, please report it to a member of staff as soon as possible.

If you observe anything suspicious, unsafe or potentially security-related, please notify a member of staff immediately and do not place yourself at risk by intervening directly.

Safety and Enforcement

To protect the safety, security and wellbeing of everyone using our services, Red Funnel may take action where a passenger's behaviour breaches this Code of Conduct, our Terms and Conditions or otherwise compromises the safety, wellbeing or experience of passengers or employees.

Such action may include:

  • Refusal of travel.
  • Removal from vessels, terminals or other company facilities.
  • Restriction of access to facilities.
  • Formal written warnings.
  • Temporary or permanent travel bans.
  • Investigation of suspected ticketing fraud.
  • Reporting incidents to the Police or other authorities where appropriate.
  • Where considered necessary and lawful, sharing passenger information, including name and address details, with the Police or other relevant authorities to support the investigation, prevention or prosecution of unlawful, unsafe or unacceptable behaviour.

Red Funnel has a zero-tolerance approach to violence, threats, intimidation or abuse directed towards employees.
Any action taken will be proportionate to the circumstances and based upon the safety, security and wellbeing of passengers and employees.

Where formal enforcement action is being considered, Red Funnel may provide the opportunity to submit representations before a final decision is reached.
