50,000 Isle of Wight tickets sold

Organiser of the Isle of Wight Festival John Giddings has revealed 50,000 tickets for the event have already been sold.

Passes are still available for the festival, which is being headlined this year by Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Mr Giddings told the Southern Daily Echo that he has been told by fans that it is the best ever Isle of Wight Festival and preparations for the event are "pretty good" with a month to go.

The festival is set to get underway on June 22nd and tens of thousands of people will be travelling to the Isle of Wight in order to see acts such as The Vaccines, Madness and Jessie J.

It was noted by the curator of the event that there is a great mix of bands lined up to perform at the festival this summer, with the "American trilogy" of headlining rock acts complemented by some of the biggest names in British pop music.

"I actually came up with an expression the other day that it’s the best from the past, present and future. I don't book it like that, but I just like music from different generations," he was quoted as saying by the news provider.

Mr Giddings added it was an accident that it turned out Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will all be performing at the Isle of Wight Festival in the same year, as he has been working on the bookings for a long time.

"Well I've been targeting all of them for about five to seven years and then their worlds collided! Once I'd got two, I just thought I had to get the other and call it an American trilogy," he said.

The organiser also gave ticket holders some advice for the best bands to check out during their time at the event this summer, with Spector and Zulu Winter among those to be singled out.

Girl group Stooshe could be another to look out for according to Mr Giddings as they are likely to have hit the charts ahead of the event, while Labrinth was another name picked out by the promoter as an act to see.

The Garden Stage is set to play a bigger role in the Isle of Wight Festival this summer and an impressive roster of bands and singers have already been confirmed as playing the area.

Mr Giddings explained that it has been moved to a better location on the Seaclose Park site in Newport that should mean it attracts more revellers to hear live music.

Crystal Castles, The Charlatans and The Pierces have been confirmed as the headline acts for the Garden Stage, with other names such as Best Coast, Dry The River, Miles Kane, Melanie C, Matt Cardle and Beth Hart playing over the course of the weekend.

The organiser, who has been at the helm of the Isle of Wight Festival since it returned a few years ago, admitted that ticket sales have been affected as a result of other events such as the Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee celebrations taking place this year.

"I'm no economist, but people are definitely spending later this year. But it's going to be an epic year and thankfully that’s reflected in our ticket sales," he said.

Passes for this year's Isle of Wight Festival remain on sale from a range of outlets including the island ferry company Red Funnel.

Bands on the bill for the event this year include Biffy Clyro, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Band of Skulls, Noah and the Whale, Feeder and Elbow.
