Visit public gardens on Isle of Wight holiday

People who are taking Isle of Wight holidays this spring are being encouraged to take in attractions such as the Carisbrooke Castle gardens.

According to the Isle of Wight Council (IWC), the island has a number of attractive gardens that can be enjoyed by members of the public.

Carisbrooke Castle was named as one good place for green-fingered visitors to enjoy at this time of year.

The building is over 800 years old and is perhaps best known as the location where King Charles I was imprisoned before his trial, so history buffs may find lots to appreciate as well.

Visitors were also pointed towards the botanic gardens at Ventnor and the National Trust gardens at Mottistone Manor.

"Spring is seen as a time of growth and renewal," the IWC said.

"This is particularly noticeable on the Isle of Wight."

Indeed, the IWC said the island offers a "blooming marvellous" array of flora and fauna that could rouse visitors out of their winter slumber.

The council added that even the Isle of Wight's woodland floors should soon be carpeted in spring flowers such as bluebells and daffodils.
