Burger night - eating out with the family…and the dog!

A firm favourite with the family is Off the Rails in Yarmouth, a converted old railway station, that offers great food, cooked simply with a great atmosphere and views. Located right on the main cycle way between Freshwater and Yarmouth, this is a great spot to stop off for refreshments during your explorations on foot, bike or horse of the West Wight.

Recently OTR was featured by Chris Evans in his CARS column as a not to be missed pit stop in the Island “…a gem of a find, an old railway station converted into a stunning café/ restaurant called Off the Rails. Its brilliant, please go – the scones are to die for.”– a great spot of publicity for this small unassuming eatery.

The secret to its success is a constantly changing small menu that offers lots of seasonal and local produce – all superbly cooked by head chef Peter Corney and his team. A packed event calendar and weekly Sunday roasts also really helps. Their themed nights are not to be missed, such as the Ocean Creed Cacao evening sampling a 5 course set menu specially designed by local master chocolatier Abraham Seaforth and head chef, Peter for a very indulgent and unique organic experience with every dish from the menu containing cacao shipped from the Caribbean to the Isle of Wight.

Theatrical events and live jazz evenings always sell out too like the upcoming ALLO 'ALLO PART DEUX on Saturday 14th May, where you enjoy an evening in war- torn France sampling a four course menu of side splitting comedy as you - the diner – are put at the heart of the action.

Our personal favourite is burger night!  Friday nights are burger night and there are always at east 8 burgers to chooses from including some great veggie options. I munched my way through the Fat Controller; pork burger with griddled apple, bacon, pork hash and pancetta, while the girls plumped for the Coalmans Breakfast Burger; beef burger with sausage, black pudding, fried egg, mushrooms, tomato and beans!

Dogs are also treated like royalty with their own menu to munch from – including a dog friendly range of ice creams! They also do a FREE sponsored dog walk with Oscar pet food on the last Saturday of every month departing from Off The Rails at 230pm.

So next time you're thinking where to go for a fun evening out or some great food - make sure you head Off the Rails!
