Top Foodie Picks of the Month

The Isle of Wight is positively bursting into life this spring with new local produce, menus and epicurean delights aplenty.

New Produce

New for sale are three fabulous Island innovations. Taking an everyday staple to new heights, comes a new direction from the clever guys at the Little Gloster, fresh ‘Uffa Pasta’ handmade by Holly, uses seasonal & locally sourced ingredients, available to pre order & enjoy at home.

Meanwhile the Isle of Wight Cheese Co have created two beautiful new cheeses to compliment any cheese board; Blue Slipper a super soft blue cheese that spills out when cut into and Borthwood a spreadable white rinded cheese that is soft at an early age.

Or if you’ve a sweet tooth don’t miss the new Mocha goats milk fudge from The Green Barn IoW Dairy Goats – coffee fudge with a chocolaty hit of cocoa nibs.

New Looks

Opening this week after the winter with new looks or innovations are The Hut in Colwell, The Cow Co at Tapnell Farm and the Little Gloster in Gurnard.

The Hut reopens after 6 months and they’ve not spent the winter months sitting idle, having installed new windows and bi-fold doors on the lower deck so you can enjoy the spectacular views and sundowners no matter what the spring weather throws at you.

After their winter refurbishment, The Little Gloster now have three distinct areas– the dining room (reservations recommended), the lounge area with sofas and window bar for people coming in for a glass of wine, morning coffee and a light bite off the new bar snacks menu (no reservations required) and ‘the bridge’ for groups, private dining and TLG Social events, offering guests an opportunity for drinks & nibbles as well as seated dining. This year they have also joined forces with French Restaurant Manager, John Lacombe, who brings over thirty years’ experience in industry greats including, The Connaught, Le Caprice, Soho House, Chewton Glen & The Notting Hill Brasserie.

Over at Tapnell the Cow Co have extended their opening times to 7 days a week for lunch (yes finally somewhere in the West Wight open on Mondays), and also Friday and Saturday evenings. They will also be open Thursday evenings during the school holidays.

New Menus

These guys have also updated their menu offerings ready for 2018. The Little Gloster menu will be featuring pasta Wednesdays serving homemade ‘Uffa Pasta’, with a new approachable lunch menu, a light bite bar snacks menu, as well as a family friendly dinner menu.

The Cow Co are extending their menu with loads more variety now offering their Chef’s original takes on some great home-cooked classics, such as sausage and mash, and fish and chips, while still offering their signature beef dishes (their homemade burgers are going nowhere!). In fact, they’ll now have a lighter bites menu – smaller versions of their main dishes, for lesser appetites, including a mini version of each of their burgers, with a multi-burger sharing platter available for those who can’t make their minds up!

While over at the Smoking Lobster in Ventnor you can try their brand new delectable squid crab sliders – a squid ink bun, tempered soft shell crab teamed with their on tap lager Ashai. Heaven.
