Guide to Self Catering Hideaways
Knowing where to stay when it comes to privacy and seclusion can be all when you're after a completely relaxing holiday. There are plenty of self-catering places off the beaten track on the Island if you know where to look. So here's our guide to the best self catering hideaways on the Isle of Wight.
Duver Clubhouse, St Helen's
This attractive wooden chalet is now owned by the National Trust, which won the 2012 British Travel Awards for best UK self-catering & cottages. It was formerly the clubhouse for the Old Royal Isle of Wight Golf Links and has since been adapted and modernized over the years. The location here is a nature lovers’ haven. The chalet has a verandah that wraps around the building and overlooks the Duver, a stretch of sand and shingle, also owned by the Trust. It’s a haven for seabirds and other wildlife so binoculars are a must. The village of St Helen’s is about a quarter of a mile away and offers the usual shop, Post Office, pub and eatery. There are 3 bedrooms at the Clubhouse (1 single and 2 twins) and it has many mod cons, bar a dishwasher, and a small TV. The Clubhouse is unique in its close proximity and access to Duver beach so weather pending much of the time can be spent outside exploring the wonderful natural landscape on your doorstep.
