Are your running shoes ready for a fantastic new challenge? The inagurial Isle of Wight Festival of Running takes place in West Wight between 2-4 June 2017. It promises fitness fanatics and first time runners the chance to see the best of the Isle of Wight's beautiful scenery. With runs tailored for those just starting out on the flat as well as more challenging hill climbs for the pros, the festival offers courses for all the family.

Supported by Red Funnel, the Isle of Wight Festival of Running organised by the West Wight Sports & Community Centre is a brand new sporting event on the Isle of Wight which has been designed with the whole family in mind. There are races and activities that everyone can enjoy including fun runs for the youngsters and picturesque Couch to 5k races. More experiencd runners will enjoy the 5k to 10k programmes and for those looking for the ultimate challenge, don't miss the stunning cross country routes offered by the Needles Half and Full marathons. There's even an exilarating half iron man distance event for triathletes!

Even if you don't run at all, you can still enjoy all the fun and entertainment in the festival village and watch the screening of a classic film.

The Event Village will be open throughout the weekend, with lots of fun activities, entertainment, and stalls.


SATURDAY 3rd JUNE

5k and 10k runs – These routes are perfect anyone who has completed a Couch to 5K programme or for those who want to try a slightly longer distance. Starting out from the Sports Centre they will take you through the twists and turns of the footpaths running through the stunning Freshwater countryside. They are open to ages 15yrs and over.

Classic Film screening – To get everyone in the running mood, come and enjoy a screening of the classic movie Chariots of Fire which will take place in our Community Centre. (Limited tickets available)


SUNDAY 4th JUNE

Needles Junior Fun Run – Held in the fields next to the West Wight Sports Centre, all children from superheros to pirates and princesses will take home a medal and a certificate. New for 2017, there'll also be a 2 lap course for the older children.

Needles XC Half Marathon – It is one of the toughest and most scenic half marathons in the country. The 13.1 mile course will take you over downs and heathland, past historic monuments and of course you'll glimpse the most iconic landmark on the Isle of Wight – The Needles.

Needles XC Marathon – If you are a veteran of the Needles Half Marathon and want to try a new challenge, or if you are looking for a marathon that will push you to your limits, then you will want to enter the first Needles XC Marathon. The first part of the course will take in the Half Marathon route, then you split off at Freshwater Bay and make your way along the ups and downs of the famous Tennyson Trail before heading back to Freshwater. It's not a race for the faint hearted!


FULL WEEKEND (2-4 June 2017)

Spyvelo Long Weekend - In partnership with SpyVelo and GP Sport, the half iron man distance event will take place over 3 days, Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June. It will include a 1.9km open water swim in Colwell Bay, 90km cycle through the West Wight and the Needles XC Half Marathon. You can enter as an individual or as a team. Limited to 150 entries. Getting to the Isle of Wight Festival of Running is easy via Southampton.

By car - catch the ferry to East Cowes and then head south on Dover Road. Follow the the A3021 and A3054 to Betty Haunt Lane. This leads on to Calbourne Rd/The Middle Rd/B3401. Continue on The Middle Rd to Freshwater. The drive will take about 36 minutes.

On foot - catch the Red Jet to West Cowes. From here, Southern Vectis operate frequent buses (service 1) to Newport where you can change at the bus station for Freshwater (service 7). Taxis are also available outside the West Cowes Red Jet terminal. For car hire, we recommend Enterprise - they will pick you-up from the Red Jet if you tell them your arrival time.
