Red Funnel to bid a fond farewell to the QE2
08-10-2008 On Tuesday 11 November the Red Eagle, Red Funnel's flagship vehicle ferry, will set sail to celebrate the final departure from Southampton of the most famous serving liner in the world, Cunard's Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2).
The Red Funnel farewell cruise will follow the QE2 as she leaves for Dubai where she is destined to become a hotel and shopping venue at Palm Jumeirah.
Launched by the Queen in 1967, the QE2 has had a fascinating career. Since her maiden voyage in 1969 she has carried over 2.5 million passengers, completed 25 world cruises and more than 800 transatlantic crossings, and served as a troop ship in the Falklands war in 1982.
The Red Eagle has two open viewing decks which offer guests the perfect vantage point from which to view the liner as she departs to the sights and sounds of a magnificent fireworks display.
Tickets are £15 for children, £30 for adults and £22 for seniors and include a glass of wine or soft drink, plus live music and family entertainment. There is a tempting selection of hot and cold food and a fully stocked bar so guests can raise a toast as the QE2 leaves the Solent for the final time.
The farewell cruise departs from Terminal 1, Royal Pier Dock Gate 7, Southampton on 11 November at 1845 hrs and returns at approximately 2235 hrs. A limited amount of parking is available onboard for £10 per vehicle.
