Red Funnel offers ticket packages to Isle of Wight events & festivals

25-07-2006 International festivals, country galas, extreme sport shows and foodie fiestas – the Isle of Wight is host to a long list of events throughout 2006.

 

The Isle of Wight’s diverse landscape and promise of more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the UK make it an ideal location for a remarkable range of events. After enjoying huge success from this year’s Isle of Wight Festival, the island is gearing up to deliver more first-class events than ever before, including the Isle of Wight Food and Drink Festival and the world renowned boutique festival - Bestival. Catering for all interests and ages, visitors to the Isle of Wight are guaranteed to find an event to suit them.

Red Funnel, the Isle of Wight specialist, provides a one-stop shop to events on the island, with exclusive packages on offer including tickets and return ferry travel from Southampton to Cowes.

Forthcoming 2006 events include:

  • Westlife (29 July) will be performing a live picnic style open-air concert at Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s favourite summer residence. The Irish quartet will play in the magnificent grounds of the House.
  • Skandia Cowes Week (29 July – 5 August) is the largest and most prestigious sailing regatta in the world. Up to 1,000 boats compete over the eight days, ranging from high-tech racing machines to classic day boats. Thousands of spectators flock to Cowes to enjoy ‘The Week’, taking in the action on and off the water. Travelling to the event couldn’t be easier with Red Funnel which operates both high-speed and vehicle ferries directly into the heart of Cowes.
  • The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival (19- 20 August) will see over 250 stallholders selling all things garlic, from garlic beer to garlic ice-cream. The festival also offers a variety of family entertainment including live music, mountain bike displays and arena events.
  • Cowes Powerboat Festival (25 - 27 August) combines the P1 World Championship with the Cowes Classic, making it one of the world's premier festivals of offshore racing. Crews from across the globe get together to compete in a weekend of spectacular and competitive racing. With more than 70 boats expected and racing much closer to shore than usual, this year’s event promises some fantastic entertainment both on and off the water.
  • Wolverton Manor Garden Fair (2 –3 September) is set in the wonderful grounds of Wolverton Manor. Featuring mainland, local and Chelsea exhibitors, arts and crafts stalls, a farmers market, demonstrations and entertainment, the Wolverton Manor Garden Fair guarantees fun for the whole family – don’t miss the Red Funnel dog show!
  • Bestival (8-10 September) is returning to Robin Hill Country Park for the third year running. Hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Rob da Bank, Bestival is the best way to round off the festival season. The festival combines a fantastic line-up with a boutique atmosphere and fun on the grandest scale. 100s of live acts and DJs will be playing to the crowds over the three day extravaganza including Scissor Sisters, Pet Shop Boys, The Stranglers, The Fall, Annie Nightingale, and many more.
  • The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival (16 – 24 September) offers a range of cycling events to suit all levels, from the Fourteen Hills Killer Challenge for serious racing to more scenic and relaxing rides around the island.
  • The Isle of Wight Food and Drink Festival (30 September – 1 October) offers visitors the chance to see and sample some of the Isle of Wight’s finest produce. Taking place for the first time this year, the Food and Drink Festival will include a food fair, food and wine demonstrations, tasting opportunities and a range of family entertainment.
  • White Air Extreme Sports Festival (26 – 29 October) is the largest extreme sports festival in Europe. The event brings together the extreme sport elite to compete in a range of awesome water sport and land sport championships including windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, mountain boarding, skate and BMX.
