Dancing Jim overwhelmed by public support
27-02-2018 – Jim O'Reilly or 'Dancing Jim' as he is affectionately known by passengers crossing between Southampton and the Isle of Wight has been overwhelmed by the level of public support he's received in connection with his nomination for VisitEngland's Tourism Superstar 2018 award.
The Daily Mirror, media partner for the awards, reported on Saturday that 'Dancing Jim' has taken an early lead thanks to the wave of votes from members of the public.
'Dancing Man', Jim O'Reilly said: "The last few weeks have been amazing and I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has already voted. I'm really humbled. It's amazing knowing that people are voting for me all over the UK and around the world too. I'm a huge Saints fan, so a supporting tweet from Matt Le Tissier was a real highlight. Hopefully I'm also helping to put the Isle of Wight on the map and get people thinking about coming out to visit. It really is the most beautiful place. The Island is my home and I absolutely love welcoming people over and starting their holiday off with bit of fun."
Murray Carter, Red Funnel's Customer Service Director added: "I know Jim is astonished by the enormous show of public support but it should come as no surprise as he has a natural ability to make people's day. It would be terrific for him to win and we'll have our fingers crossed right up until voting closes on 20th March."
Now into its 7th year, the awards recognise and celebrate those in the tourism industry who go the extra mile to ensure tourists in England have an unforgettable visitor experience. Nominees are passionate about where they work and the places they live and consistently set a high standard of service in England's tourism industry.
Red Funnel and destination management organisation, Visit Isle of Wight are encouraging the public to get involved and show their support by voting for Jim. Voting is open now until midnight on 20th March 2018 and a link to the online voting page can be found at redfunnel.co.uk/voteforjim or by searching for #voteforjim
The outright winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Bath on 23 April.
