MILLION DOLLAR BASH celebrates 50th Anniversary of the 1969 IoW ‘Bob Dylan’ Festival with a one-day event featuring an all-star bill.
On Saturday, August 31, 2019, it will be 50 years to the day since Bob Dylan took to the stage at the 2nd IoW Festival of Music to close a star-studded festival, wowing an expectant crowd of 150,000-plus in the process.
To mark the anniversary, Million Dollar Bash presents a full, one-day festival to honour Dylan’s iconic Island appearance – his first concert appearance in more than three years and snubbing the rival Woodstock festival to take part. The Bash is curated by folk-rock legend Ashley Hutchings, described by Dylan as “the single most influential figure in English folk-rock”, who has assembled an all-start ‘Dylancentric’ band to pay tribute to the great man’s Island set.
Fellow folk-rock legend Richard Thompson will play a full set and, for rockers, there is a UK 2019 festival exclusive appearance from Wishbone Ash, celebrating their own 50th anniversary. For blues-rock fans, Free’s 1969 contribution is covered by Kossoff: The Band Plays On, featuring Free guitarist Paul Kossoff’s final band vocalist, Terry Slesser.
There are greats from the 69 line-up returning, too: folk legend Julie Felix, Jacqui McShee’s Pentangle and, from The Pretty Things, vocalist Phil May and guitarist Dick Taylor….and much, much more.
The Bash is on from 11am – 11pm at The County Showground, Newport Road, Cowes. Tickets are £44 (including booking fee) from www.allwightnow.com or £40 from That 60’s Place, Cowes, or Dimbola Museum and Galleries, Freshwater. Under-18s are £22 and under-10s go Free.
