Yarmouth Old Gaffers festival

Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight is a beautiful place to experience at any time of the year, with its natural harbour guarded by Yarmouth Castle, weaving streets and thronging high street.

However, if you're going to choose a specific time of year to visit this amazing slice of the UK, it's best to go during the Old Gaffers Festival, taking place from May 30th until June 1st this year.

You can count on a fun-filled weekend full of activities and entertainment for the entire family, and that beautiful harbour we mentioned will have plenty of gaff-rigged little vessels bobbing between the steely grey waves. It makes for a quite excellent photo opportunity.

As always, the little boats will be participating in a race around the Solent on the Saturday, and while it's undoubtedly a highlight to watch their sails leaning against the horizon, there are plenty of supporting events that are also a joy to experience.

For example, the Oooh Arrh Gaffers Bar will take place alongside the boat celebration. This annual festival sees dozens of ales brought in from all over the world for sampling, and you're certain to go away tipsy, full of alcohol and happiness.

Visitors can also visit some of the many vessels that will be tearing their way around the Solvent, and purchase some of the unusual artisan products on display at the continental market stalls that dominate Yarmouth's streets during this time.

St James' Church will be hosting a flower festival with plenty of colours on display as always on the Friday afternoon, while those with children will want to make a beeline for the fun fair situated on the green as this promises plenty of family fun.

Other attractions include the pier, where you'll find dozens of people lining up to fish during this special weekend, as well as the lifeboat house which is open to the public.

Whatever you enjoy, it's sure to be a great day. Book your ferry tickets now.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801704410-ADNFCR
