TV show to focus on Isle of Wight's weather

Tourists taking Isle of Wight holidays who want to learn more about the island's unique weather can tune into an upcoming television programme to do so.

On Monday night (September 20th 2010) at 19:30 BST on BBC One, Wild Weather of the South will air, with a particular focus on the Isle of Wight.

Dr Janet Sumner is presenting the show, which will also feature contributions from astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

BBC English Regions' executive producer for the show Tony Parker said: "The programmes will include stunning footage of some of England's most iconic landscapes, offering the public a chance to look at the weather in their home county in a totally different light."

Ventnor is likely to be mentioned in the programme, as the town enjoys a Mediterranean feel due to its own microclimate.

This is because it faces south and is also protected by the Isle of Wight's cliffs.
