Thousands raised in Isle of Wight for Go Orange Day

One of the people responsible for promoting Go Orange Day on the Isle of Wight has hailed the success of the event.

According to Michaela White of Ryde Inshore Rescue, the fundraising initiative was more successful than anybody expected.

Last month, people on the Isle of Wight were encouraged to head to work or school wearing an orange item of clothing.

This formed part of a wider effort to raise funds for independent lifeboat stations across the UK, including those at Ryde, Sandown and Freshwater.

Ms White commented: "The event exceeded all our expectations with regards to how successful it was."

Speaking to VentnorBlog, she confirmed that next year's Go Orange Day will take place on February 18th 2011.

"So don't throw your orange stuff away," Ms White said.

She went on to thank everyone who took part in Go Orange Day, as well as the media outlets who provided coverage of the event.

The Isle of Wight County Press was among the publications to report on the fundraising drive, highlighting efforts such as a James Bond-themed casino night in Shanklin and a Ryde Inshore Rescue crew member getting a spray tan in the name of charity.
