Strictly Come Dancing judge makes Isle of Wight guest appearance

An Isle of Wight theatre has called in a judge from Strictly Come Dancing as it battles to avoid closure as a result of financial difficulties.

Len Goodman has recorded a special series of clips that are being played during performances of Cinderella at the Shanklin Theatre this festive period.

Panto director Jayne Morris stated she is hoping Goodman's participation can help to secure the future of the theatre, reports BBC News.

Goodman is seen on a video screen giving his verdict on dance performances put on as part of the pantomime, while his son James is one of those taking part in the show.

Ms Morris said: "Len is a real supporter of the theatre. He was so generous with his time, it was lovely and it means a lot to us."

She added it is "vital" local residents and those on Isle of Wight holidays go along to one of the performances of the pantomime in order to support the future of the theatre.

Ms Morris conceded it can be difficult to attract celebrities from the mainland to come to the Isle of Wight and perform in the festive pantomime, which is why the cast is made up entirely of actors from the island itself.

Volunteers took over the running of the theatre last year after it came close to shutting down due to the financial difficulties caused by the recession.

The pantomime is being put on at the venue until January 2nd, while tomorrow's (December 29th's) performance will be followed by a meet and greet with Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Other nights set to be held at the theatre in the coming weeks include Back to Black - the Amy Winehouse Experience on February 4th and a performance by the UK Pink Floyd Tribute on the 17th of the same month.
