Quay Arts Centre to launch 2013 programme

The Quay Arts Centre on the Isle of Wight is planning to kick off its 2013 schedule with a number of exciting events, drawing on Southampton Solent University's impressive young talent to produce a new exhibition as well as various seminars and workshops.

Entitled Transmission, the collaborative project will kick off on December 14th and continue until March 16th 2013, occupying all three gallery spaces at the venue and including the work of more than 30 up-and-coming artists.

With students from the fine arts, design, photography and animation courses all involved in the showing, the exhibition is expected to present a diverse collection of work.

"Transmission will evolve throughout its duration; three shows will eventually unfold within the gallery spaces over the two and a half month period," explained the event's organisers.

As three different curators are taking on the three segments of the show, visitors are likely to get a surprise when they visit the Isle of Wight gallery, which is known as on of the island's most important cultural centres.

The cross-disciplinary aspect of the exhibition will allow non-traditional media like games to interact with other works, something it is hoped will showcase their potential to a new audience.

"With each work expressing a very particular style and voice, the exhibition allows the artists to represent new ideas, techniques and attitudes in an innovative and dynamic environment," the organisers added.

A range of workshops, talks and seminars will also be set up as part of the 13-week project, while students will be given the opportunity to sell some of their work in the gallery.

The Quay Arts Centre is a converted 19th century warehouse located at the head of the River Medina in the centre of Newport, and was refurbished by architect Tony Fretton in 1997.

In addition to gallery space, it includes a theatre, a popular cafe and bar and a shop.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801493186-ADNFCR
