Orpheus Singers to perform on Isle of Wight

Those who are taking Isle of Wight holidays this coming weekend could attend a performance by the Orpheus Singers during their break on the island.

The group will be heading to St Boniface Church in Bonchurch for a special event on Sunday afternoon (December 11th), with attendees encouraged to get there for 14:30 GMT.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, the guest soloist on the day is set to be Emily Renshaw, who will be recognised by those who have seen the Orpheus Singers before, as she regularly performs with them.

Richard Benger and John Lea, two composers based on the Isle of Wight, are to have their work showcased by the group and Renshaw on the day.

Other pieces set to be performed at the event include examples by Vaughan Williams, William Walton, Lennox Berkely and Gustav Holst.

The show marks the end of the 20th anniversary year and there will be a retiring collection held at the location as a result.

As well as seasonal music being played at the church, readings will also take place for those on Isle of Wight holidays to enjoy and get into the festive spirit during their time on the island.

Meanwhile, the news provider has noted a DJ based on the Isle of Wight is in the running to win a major prize after he was named on the shortlist of a Best of British 2011 award in the breakthrough category by DJ magazine.

Brading resident Jordan Peak told the newspaper it is a dream come true for him to be able to work full-time as a DJ and producer, explaining he started by purchasing a cheap set of decks and practiced before upgrading and playing at parties on the island.

A public vote is being held to decide the winner and Peak is up against names such as the likes of Jamie XX and Subb-an to win the prize.
