New Isle of Wight park opened by sports star

A sports star has opened a new £142,000 play park in Pan, which could be of interest to those heading on Isle of Wight holidays.

James Forman, who has represented England under-20s at track and field events and used to attend Barton Primary and Downside Middle School, cut the ribbon at the ceremony, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.

The venue has been named the Isobel Park - after the former island governess Isabella de Fortisbus - and was designed by Newport youth clubs.

Cheryl Snudden, deputy manager of Pan Neighbourhood Partnership, said she is delighted with the new focal point.

She explained: "The new park has been a huge success, not only with local youths and families on Pan but [it] has also attracted residents from across the island."

Last month, the island's council recommended the Isle of Wight Walking Festival - taking place between May 7th and May 22nd - is ideal for those looking to get outdoors and to increase their levels of physical activity.
