Isle of Wight tourists given glimpse into Cowes' history

Tourists taking Isle of Wight holidays are being given the chance to learn more about the history of the island with photographs going on show at three libraries.

The Isle of Wight Council has announced that libraries in Newport, Ryde and Cowes will be hosting slide shows of photographs from Cowes' history until November 22nd 2010 in an exhibition titled A Visit to Cowes.

It said: "The displays feature photos taken during the last 120 years, including pictures of Queen Victoria's visit to Cowes and photos of yacht racing in the 1930s."

But it is not just older pictures which will be shown off to people on Isle of Wight holidays for the coming weeks, with modern photographs detailing the 2001 America's Cup Jubilee also being displayed.

People on Isle of Wight holidays who find their interest in Queen Victoria's time on the island piqued by the exhibition may wish to check out her former residence Osborne House during their stay.
