Isle of Wight to hold charity fundraising weekend

Tourists on Isle of Wight holidays may be able to take part in a number of fundraising activities that are being held on the island later in the month.

Brighstone Holiday Centre will be holding various events as part of the Big Wight Matter drive that is set to take place between September 23rd and 25th.

According to a report from the Isle of Wight Country Press, money raised over the course of the three days is to be used by island-based brain cancer charity Brainstrust.

A sponsored 15-mile walk is being held as part of the fundraising initiative, as well as a ten-mile cycle ride that has been planned to coincide with the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival.

Brainstrust director Helen Bulbeck said: "Big Wight Matter promises to be a great family fun weekend while raising much-needed money for brain cancer charities."

Ms Bulbeck added that she hopes the weather is good for those on Isle of Wight holidays who decide to turn up and do their bit for the island charity.

She explained participants will be able to enjoy the "breathtaking scenery" of the Isle of Wight by taking part in the fundraising initiative.

Brain tumour patient Theresa Avey stated that she will be participating as she knows the importance of the services provided by Brainstrust to cancer sufferers on the Isle of Wight.

"Without events like Big Wight Matter, Brainstrust wouldn't be here and the battle people with a brain tumour diagnosis face would be so much harder," she said.

As well as taking part in the events being held as part of Big Wight Matter, tourists on Isle of Wight holidays can do their bit as part of the Isle of Pink celebrations being hosted on the island in order to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign throughout September.

A target has been set at £30,000 for the month-long fundraising drive.
